LOS ANGELES GALA
This Gala evening will be the largest and most influential event ever hosted for the Sabera Foundation. We are putting all our efforts into it, in order to raise the money essential to set up three new projects, which are vital for the continued development of our work. We want to continue offering a shelter for more girls coming from the streets, preventing them from being abused by their families, sold into prostitution, or even worse, having their internal organs sold as spare parts.
There are not enough Public Hospitals in Calcutta, nor are they properly-equipped for cases which need complete medical care.
We need to build a CHILDREN´S HOSPITAL.
We need to set up our SECOND SHELTER HOME.
We need to develop our SPORTS CENTRE, that already offers sports, education, food and medical assistance on a daily basis to nearly 50 children.
We have calculated that the total cost associated with (1) buying the land, (2) building and staffing the Shelter, (3) building and staffing the Children's Hospital, and (4) expanding the sports area, will be close to $2 million.
In order to raise a substantial portion of the entire amount needed, the Sabera Foundation is planning a Charitable Event in L.A. on the 1Oth October, 2002. The event will be co-hosted by Melanie Griffith, Penélope Cruz and Esther Cañadas. The dinner, which will host 300 people, will take place at Melanie Griffith's and Antonio Banderas' home in L.A. We plan on selling a total of 30 tables, broken down as follows:
- 4 Tables at $ 100,000 each
- 6 Tables at $ 50,000 each
- 10 Tables at $ 25,000 each
- 10 Tables at $ 12,500 each
The evening will feature:
- A SHORT DOCUMENTARY, which will be shown during dinner. This is intended to give the benefactors and their guests an in-depth understanding of the Sabera Foundation, its origin, the work done to date, and its hopes and goals for the future.
- A FASHION SHOW of exclusive dresses created by the girls who are part of the Esther Cañadas program in Calcutta. The show will feature some of the world's best-known fashion models, and the outfits will subsequently be auctioned.
- An AUCTION of some very high-profile items, donated for the occasion by major contributors, including personal items from many top Hollywood stars.
- The LAUNCH of the SABERA PEACE CD, which some of the world's top singers and musicians are currently working on, together with the Sabera Girls. Melanie and Tracy Griffith are the driving force behind the CD.
